Research & Scientific Projects Manager (M/F)

    Place of work: Hybrid (Lisbon office at Lispolis, and remote)

    Type of Employment: Permanent contract (post 6 month probation period)

    As the Research and Science Projects Manager you will be mostly responsible for the development of R&D collaborative projects, including establishing EU-wide consortiums and funding opportunities in order to make applied innovation happen.

    This position requires high integration of technical and managerial skills, since every project requires scientific background in order to ideate on technology development, but also capabilities to implement the project within a budget, managing all aspects therein. This position also requires good communication and negotiation skills once many stakeholders are involved, especially universities and research centers - so a good network within these groups will be valued.

    BGI has a long history of applied and translational research including, for instance, spinning off a Collaborative Laboratory (food4sustainability.org), and it is our goal to keep developing new areas of business, new programs, and even supporting existing business and startups in the sustainability and agro-food tech industries. Most of all it is extremely important to create environmental, social and economic sustainability in all the solutions delivered by BGI.

Requisites:

    • Background: PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) areas and solid scientific track record (ideally h-index >= 4)

    • Previous experience with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) software, e.g. Gabi, Umberto, and existing standards

    • Experience writing public funding proposals

    • Passion for sustainability and the agro tech industry

    • Advanced knowledge of portfolio, program, and project management. Preferably certified in project management (PMI PMP or IPMA C or higher)

    • Advanced use of productivity and project management tools

    • Ability to work in a team environment

    • Microsoft Office and Google tools usage expertise

    • Proficiency in English and Portuguese

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to develop hypotheses, frame problems, and generate relevant insights based on supporting data

    • Demonstrate previous experience using industry standards and reference models e.g., COBIT, ITIL, CMMI, TOGAF, ISO20000, IS022301, Lean Six Sigma

    • Ability to work in highly ambiguous and complex environments and the ability to interface with client executives and demonstrated commitment to personal growth and professional development

    • High level of autonomy

    • Ability to travel, nationwide and internationally
