About

Explore the future of the agrifood sector at the Agrifood Open Day, a national event organized by the EIT Food Hub Portugal, in collaboration with the Municipality of Arruda dos Vinhos.

For the second consecutive year, the Agrifood Open Day will gather representatives from all corners of the agrifood industry - consumers, SMEs, farmers, public entities, corporates, researchers, startups, investors, and policy makers - to explore the power of innovation, entrepreneurship, and education in shaping the future of agrifood systems. The main goal is to generate valuable insights and ideas that can drive positive change and contribute to sustainable development.

The event promises a collaborative environment, where different minds converge to face the challenges of the agrifood sector. Join meaningful discussions with industry experts and thought leaders as we dive deeper into how we can create sustainable agrifood systems.

Soil Microbiology Mini-conference

Call For Abstracts

We are pleased to announce that the call for abstracts for the Soil Microbiology Mini-Conference in the upcoming AgriFood Open Day (Arruda dos Vinhos, 19 October 2023) is now open!

Soil microorganisms play a critical role in sustaining ecosystem health and agricultural productivity. The diverse community of microorganisms in soil influences many ecosystem functions like organic matter decomposition, carbon and other nutrients’ cycling, water and climate regulation, plant growth, pest and disease control, soil remediation, and soil structure formation, impacting food production and global food security. Understanding the intricate interactions within the soil microorganisms can lead to innovative agricultural practices that enhance soil fertility, reduce reliance on chemical inputs, and promote sustainable land management. Furthermore, insights into the soil microbiome hold great potential for mitigating climate change, as these microorganisms play a significant role in carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions regulation.
